Yamada Tatami Shop was founded in 1941 by our first generation craftsman, Yamada Buichi. Our first shop was located near the Kita Junior High  School. In 2002, with the expansion of the business, we moved to our current location.

Second generation craftsman - Masao, took over the tatami business and built good relationship with the customers in the region.

With Third generation craftsman - Masaki taking over, he took on new challenges by picking up new skills. He learnt interior renovation, fixing of Japanese sliding doors, on top of his tatami work. In recent years he has also gotten his real estate license, thus diving into a completely new industry.

Masaki intends to continue this traditional craft by finding new ways to bring more attention to this important part of Japanese culture.
